FED Rate vs. OPEC Prices For 2015

The baton is in the hands of Mrs. Janet Yellen, the FED chairwoman.

The free market will now set the global cost of oil, leading to a new era of wild price swings and disorderly trading that benefit’s only the Mid-East petro-states with deepest pockets such as Saudi Arabia. If so, the weaker peripheral members such as Venezuela and Nigeria are being thrown to the wolves.

If the forecast is correct, the LNG flood could have powerful political effects, giving Europe a source of mass supply that can undercut pipeline gas from Russia. The EU already has enough LNG terminals to cover most of its gas needs. It has not been able to use this asset as a geostrategic bargaining chip with the Kremlin because LGN itself has been in scarce supply, mostly diverted to Japan and Korea. Much of Europe may not need Russian gas at all within a couple of years.

Obama's secret outreach to Russia

4/1/2015

President Barack Obama's administration has been working behind the scenes for months to forge a new working relationship with Russia, despite the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin has shown little interest in repairing relations with Washington or halting his aggression in neighboring Ukraine.

This month, Obama's National Security Council finished an extensive and comprehensive review of U.S policy toward Russia that included dozens of meetings and input from the State Department, Defense Department and several other agencies, according to three senior administration officials. At the end of the sometimes-contentious process, Obama made a decision to continue to look for ways to work with Russia on a host of bilateral and international issues while also offering Putin a way out of the stalemate over the crisis in Ukraine.

“I don’t think that anybody at this point is under the impression that a wholesale reset of our relationship is possible at this time, but we might as well test out what they are actually willing to do,” a senior administration official told me. “Our theory of this all along has been, let's see what’s there. Regardless of the likelihood of success.”

Brazil in the world for 2015

30/12/2014

Brazil’s gross domestic product will expand 1.20 percent in 2015, according to a central bank survey of about 100 analysts. That’s the lowest estimate since the central bank started publishing the data in January and a "modest adjust" presented by  the economists when compared to the 5.50 forecasted percent of growth in the end of 2013 for this year.

“Next year will be a time of adjustments - increases to government
regulated prices will be needed and measures on the fiscal side must be taken to prevent losing the investment grade rating,” Newton Rosa, chief economist at Sul America Investimentos. “There are no signs that point to a solution to the problems that are affecting industry, specially investments”.

18/11/2014

LONDON (Reuters) - An international settlement over allegations of manipulation in the foreign exchange market shows reform of Britain's banking system is still badly needed and must not be diluted, a group of British lawmakers said on Monday.

Regulators last week imposed fines totaling $4.3 billion on HSBC Holdings Plc, Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc, JPMorgan Chase & Co, Citigroup Inc, UBS AG and Bank of America Corp, for failing to stop traders from trying to manipulate the forex market, following a year-long global investigation.
